Resilient Future: Launching the Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance (NAMA)
In today’s volatile geopolitical landscape, the ability to manufacture critical components locally and on demand is no longer just an innovation goal, it’s a strategic necessity. From life-saving medical supplies during the pandemic to rapid production of drone components, additive manufacturing (AM) has proven itself as a cornerstone of modern industrial resilience.
To ensure the Nordic region remains a global frontrunner, we are proud to announce the launch of the Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance (NAMA).
NAMA is about connecting capabilities across the region to build a stronger, more resilient Nordic supply chain. The idea is simple: if a critical component is needed in one country, it can be produced where the right expertise and equipment already exist, regardless of borders.
By aligning resources, sharing knowledge, and enabling cross-border production, NAMA aims to reduce duplication, respond faster to disruptions, and strengthen the Nordics’ position in the global shift toward digital and sustainable manufacturing.
The Challenge: Breaking Down Borders
While Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway each have strong national AM ecosystems, efforts have largely remained fragmented. This “national-first” approach can lead to duplicated investments and missed opportunities. Without stronger coordination, the Nordics risk losing ground in the global race toward digital and green industrial transformation.
Our Mission
To strengthen resilience and competitiveness in the Nordics through a unified, cross-border AM ecosystem.
What NAMA Will Deliver
NAMA represents more than a network, it marks a structural shift in how manufacturing is approached across the region. Key objectives include:
- A Unified Ecosystem Map
A comprehensive overview of stakeholders and production capabilities across all four countries. - Shared Research & Capacity
Enabling cross-border collaboration so industries can access expertise and production capacity when it’s needed most—especially during disruptions. - A Strong Nordic Voice
Representing the region collectively toward European policymakers and global industry leaders.
Looking ahead, NAMA will transition into a permanent organization by 2028, serving as a green and digital engine for Nordic industry. By promoting circular business models and strengthening supply chain resilience, the alliance will help future-proof our manufacturing landscape.
The future of manufacturing is local, digital, and collaborative. By joining forces, the Nordics are not just adapting to change—we are positioning ourselves to lead it.
Stay tuned as we continue to map the future of Nordic resilience.
